GPA - Grade Point Average Explained

If you are an international student coming to study here in USA, your Grade point average will be measured on the scale of 0 to 4.0.

The change of the percentage (usually followed by all schools in India and other countries ) to GPA can be a bit confusing.

GPA

Usually US Universities follow the below GPA System :

A Grade - 4.0 GPA

B Grade - 3.0 GPA

C Grade - 2.0 GPA

D Grade - 1.0 GPA

F Grade - Fail

Taking an example so that you can understand better. Suppose in the first semester you take 3 courses (9 credit hours i.e. Each course of 3 credit hours ) . If you get A grade in all the courses then your GPA will be 4.0. If you get 2 A's and 1 B - Your GPA = 3.66( Simple Maths - (4.0 +4.0 +3.0)/3 = 11/3  = 3.66 . Similarly you can calculate different scenarios.

I hope you were able to understand the concept of GPA.
